Harley Herman's work in the more than three decades of his law practice is an amalgam of public, private and educational service. Harley began his legal career as a third year law student and became the first UF law student intern to present oral arguments to Florida' First District Court of Appeal. Upon graduation, he joined Marion County Legal Aid, Inc. and was quickly promoted to Director of the program.. Harley's experience in Legal Services organizations includes service with programs in Orlando , Daytona Beach , Panama City and Ocala . Herman has served on the faculties of Savannah State University , where he taught Criminal Justice and Business Law, and the FAMU College of Law, where he has taught Estates and Trust Law. Harley's years in private practice have been dominated by his service to bar, civic and community organizations, including his recent tenure as the Chair of a Florida Bar Section. His civic and bar service were recognized by the New York Time and a PBS documentary highlighting his unprecedented Florida Supreme Court Petition to posthumously reinstate the bar admission and reputation of Virgil Hawkins, the Floridian who desegregated Florida's public universities after a decade of litigation. The Florida Bar has also recognized his work on a seven-year class action lawsuit with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and the Wall Street law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell, that secured a multi-million dollar settlement to spur investment in a blighted community.
